PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for smelting a molten Al alloy, which inhibits slag generation on the surface of the molten Al metal to the utmost, while keeping an excellent property of an alum flux of removing hydrogen and inclusions into the low levels, and improves the yield of the Al molten metal. SOLUTION: This smelting method is characterized by making an average particle diameter of an alum powder to 1 mm or less, and controlling an amount of the generated slag in smelting the above molten metal, not to exceed 3 mass% to the amount of the molten aluminum alloy, in smelting the molten aluminum alloy for wrought materials with the use of an alum powder as a smelting flux, to reduce hydrogen in the molten metal, and removing the slag which has moved up to the surface of the molten metal, from the molten metal.
