PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital image reading and forming apparatus in which a plurality of functions can be operated in parallel by efficiently using a storage device as a shared resource relative to a large amount of image data to be processed by a digital multifunction machine. SOLUTION: The digital image reading and forming apparatus is provided with an input means 2 that inputs image information as digital image data, a primary storage means 5 that stores pieces of the digital image data to be processed by the respective functions, a secondary storage means 6 to store the digital image data with the capacity is larger than that of the primary storage means 5, and a transfer means 4 that transfers the digital image data between the primary storage means 5, and the secondary storage means 6, the transfer means 4 divides the digital image data into a plurality of blocks when the digital image data are transferred and the storage device as the shared resource can efficiently be used and a plurality of the functions are operated in parallel by controlling the transfer means 4 so that the blocks are continuously transferred as transfer units.
