PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a readily portable walking type tilling apparatus scarcely receiving influences of heat of high-temperature exhaust gases. SOLUTION: The walking type tilling apparatus is obtained by installing a transmission case 3 under a vertical type engine 2, axially installing a tillage shaft 13 in the horizontal transverse direction under the transmission case 3, mounting a plurality of tillage tines 18, etc., on the tillage shaft 13, covering the upper part of the tillage tines 18 with a fender 70 and providing a handle support 37 composed of a round pipe at the rear of the fender 70. In the walking type tilling apparatus, a fuel tank 65 is installed at the front of the engine 2 and an air cleaner 64 is provided on one of the left and the right sides of the body of the engine 2. A muffler 60 is installed on the other of the left and right sides. A handle 54 for transportation is installed above the engine 2 so as to protrude from the handle support 37 to the front.
