Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trunk line amplifier for CATV wherein an internal amplifier unit or the like can be replaced without the need for removing a coaxial connection connector subjected to water-proof processing so as to very easily realize an HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) system configuration. SOLUTION: A case 1 comprises a main body 2 and a cover 3A, and the main body 2 adopts the same configuration as that for a conventional coaxial cable trunk line amplifier. The case main body 2 is provided with an amplifier unit 11A having a coaxial/optical switching function in an interchangeable way with a conventional coaxial cable amplifier unit. The cover 3A is interchangeable with the cover of a conventional amplifier and has a greater capacity volume. A power supply unit 12, a supervisory unit 13, an optical reception unit 61, and an optical transmission unit 62 are placed in the cover 3A. The optical reception unit 61 and the optical transmission unit 62 are connected to the outgoing signal and incoming signal coaxial/optical changeover device by using signal transmission cables 65a, 65b. The supervisory unit 13 detects the presence of the optical outgoing signal to the optical reception unit 61 to apply switching control to the coaxial/optical changeover device.
