Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical waveguide which is characterized by the fact that the compressive elasticity (E) of a core part or a clad layer is 2 GPa or larger and has an excellent abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide is characterized by the fact that the compressive elasticity (E) of at least one of the lower clad layer, the core part, and the upper clad layer is 2 GPa or larger in a patterned optical waveguide which is composed of the lower clad layer, the core part, and the upper clad layer and either one of the layers is formed of a silica-based compound.
