Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a battery system in which a unit to be supplied with power can be used continuously even if a secondary battery having memory effect is used up and the lifetime of the secondary battery can be prevented from shortening. SOLUTION: The battery system comprises a main battery section 2 consisting of a battery having memory effect capable of charging and discharging, an auxiliary battery section 4 consisting of a battery having no memory effect at least capable of discharging, a switch 8 connected with the main battery section 2 and the auxiliary battery section 4 and selecting the output from any one of them, and a control section 6 for monitoring the discharging quantity of the main battery section 2 and designates the switch 8 to make a switch from the main battery section 2 to the auxiliary battery section 4 when a decision is made that the main battery section 2 has discharged entirely based on the monitoring results.
