PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel apparatus and a process for specifically crushing a polymer gel in particular a water bearing polymer into uniform preferably fine particles. SOLUTION: The apparatus for specifically crushing the polymer gel includes the following elements (a), (b), (c): (a) a static cutting element in the form of wires, rods, fibers, a fabric, a stencil or a shape member arranged in a screen form arbitrarily supported and pretensioned, (b) an arbitrary dynamic cutting element for cutting one or more gel strands or gel particles in the form of wires or a fabric obtained by the static cutting unit, arbitrarily supported, guided and tensioned and (c) a feeding unit in which feeding is carried out in a batch method or continuously for feeding the polymer gel to the static cutting element in clamped and stabled form condition.
