Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having high coercive force and a low noise. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium is obtained by forming an underlayer, a CoCrPt magnetic layer and a protective layer in order on a nonmagnetic substrate. The CoCrPt magnetic layer contains 5.0-16.5 atom % oxygen in a dispersed state. When the CoCrPt magnetic layer is deposited by sputtering, a gaseous oxygen-argon mixture is used as a sputtering gas and the mixing ratio of oxygen is regulated so that 5.0-16.5 atom % oxygen is contained in the magnetic layer. The magnetic recording medium has a remarkably increased C/N (carrier/noise) ratio. A resin substrate may be used as the nonmagnetic substrate. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
