Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image artifact or defect by processing a scanned halftone image for enhancing image quality in a scanning system where conventionally the image artifact or defect deteriorating the image quality sometimes occurs in scanning of a halftone image when detecting a scanned image from the halftone image and reproducing it. SOLUTION: A halftone characteristic of the scanned image is detected. The scanned image is divided into a plurality of image segments on the basis of the detected halftone characteristic.
