Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing flame-retardant optical fiber coating with small defects in appearance by suppressing occurrence of lumps due to sublimation of melamine or the like onto a cord jacket, in attempting to make an optical fiber cord flame retardant using ammonium polyphosphate coated by a sublimating substance such as melamine. SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing flame-retardant optical fiber coating comprises forming an optical fiber coating 4 by extrusion molding of a resin material through a coating die 5 in which a flame retardant containing sublimating substance is added to the base resin, where a vent-type extruder 6 is used for extruding the resin material to the coating die 5 to exhaust sublimated gas due to the sublimating substance.
