Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a discharge lamp with a long life in which the crystallization/blackening of the discharge container is suppressed. SOLUTION: In the discharge lamp having a void space and a very low- temperature zone as a lamp, the crystallization/blackening of the discharge lamp is suppressed by turning off and cooling the lamp under the condition that the surface temperature in the sealed tube part at the time of turning off the lamp is always made lower than the surface temperature in the main discharging space, and by storing the crystallization causing substance and the blackening causing substance inside the void space. Further, a more suppressing mechanism of crystallization/blackening is realized, and the discharge lamp with a long life can be provided by arranging and installing metal oxide against the above void part and by forming the mechanism of oxygen carrier mediated by blackening causing substance.
