Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide steel for laser welding which prevents the occurrence of porosities in a weld metal in laser welding, particularly, that with CO2 as a shielding gas. SOLUTION: The steel has a composition (1) containing, by mass, <0.015% Si and 0.45 to 0.8% Mn, or a composition (2) containing 0.015 to 0.02% Si and <0.36% Mn, or a composition (3) containing <0.015% Si and 0.8 to 1.35% Mn, or containing 0.015 to 0.02% Si and 0.36 to 1.35% Mn, or containing 0.02 to 0.3% Si and <1.35% Mn, or a composition (4) containing 0.3 to 0.35% Si and 1.35 to 1.8% Mn, so that the occurrence of porosities in laser welding is prevented.
