Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable variable-speed drive of a generator, without having to use a generator speed sensor, in a wind-power generator which uses a permanent magnet type of synchronous generator. SOLUTION: In a wind-power generation system, where the rotor of the permanent magnet type of synchronous generator 2 is connected to the shaft of a windmill 1 and the first converter 3 is connected to the stator winding of this generator 2, a first speed estimating unit 10 estimates the speed of the generator 2, based on the voltage and current at the terminal of the generator, during the operation of the first converter 3. During stoppage of the first converter 3, a second speed estimator 17 estimates the speed of the generator 2, based on the voltage of the generator terminal.
