Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the failure of a radiator of an internal combustion engine and suppress (prevent) the failure to meet the requirements for performing failure detection if a value detected by an outside air temperature sensor after the start of the engine undergoes a transient decrease due to the emission of heat from within an intake manifold where the sensor is disposed. SOLUTION: An estimated air intake Qaest is calculated (S120) and compared with a predetermined value Qr (S122); if it exceeds the predetermined value Qr, a timer is set at a value tm1 and started to count down (S124). Upon the timer value tm1 reaching zero (S126), a determination is made as to whether or not a decrease in the temperature of outside air is greater than a threshold value (S128); if the answer is affirmative, the bit of a flag F. MONTRM is reset to zero and the requirements for performing the failure detection are determined not to be met (S130); if the answer is negative, subsequent processes are skipped (not determining that the requirements are not met). |
