Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smooth the shift and the bend of a roll by making the arrangement of a bending device in a rolling mill simple and also making unsuitable moment not to act on a chock and the roll. SOLUTION: The work rolls 1, 2 are shifted in the axial direction and also bend forces are imparted to the chocks 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B of the rolls 1, 2 in the vertical direction on each side of the operation side and the drive side. By making relative movement in the axial direction not present between the roll 1 and the chocks 1A, 1B or the like, the bending forces are imparted with actuators (14A, 14B or the like) fixedly arranged in a plurality of places in the axial direction on the each side. When the roll 1 is shifted, the resultant force of the actuators which is the bending force acts on a fixed place in the chocks 1A, 1B on each side and the output of each actuator is adjusted to make the resultant force of the bending forces on both sides act on the center C of the sheet passing position.
