Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ink from dripping by working a negative pressure to nozzles of an ink jet head without increasing the size in a system for supplying ink to the ink jet head from an ink tank. SOLUTION: An ink supply device is constituted of the ink tank 22 which is prevented from being deformed, an ink supply tube 17 for supplying ink from the ink tank to the recording head 11, and an atmosphere open tube 26 for freeing the ink tank 22 to the atmosphere. A leading end 26b of the atmosphere open tube 26 is present at a lower position than the height of a liquid discharge opening of the nozzle 15. An interface between the ink and the air (outside air) is present in the atmosphere open tube 26. A meniscus 27 of ink is formed to the interface. At a normal use environment, a constant negative pressure acts to the nozzles 15 of the recording head 11 by a force of a surface tension generated by the meniscus 27 in the atmosphere open tube 26, and therefore the ink is prevented from leaking out of the nozzles 15.
