Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery provided with lithium manganate in a positive electrode without causing uneven thermal polymerization even if an electrolytic solution prepared by dissolving a solute in a mixed solvent containing cyclic carbonate and chain carbonate is solidified by the use of a thermally polymerizing polymer material. SOLUTION: This nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is provided, in an armoring body 14, with the positive electrode 11 containing the spinel type lithium manganate, a negative electrode 12 containing a negative electrode active material capable of inserting and desorbing lithium ions, a separator 13 for separating them, and a gel electrolyte. The gel electrolyte is formed by polymerizing and gelatinizing, by the use of a thermally polymerizing monomer material, the electrolytic solution prepared by dissolving the solute comprising a lithium salt in the mixed solution containing the cyclic carbonate and chain carbonate. On at least one of the surfaces of the positive electrode 11 and the negative electrode 12, a coating of lithium carbonate produced by reaction of gaseous carbon dioxide dissolved in the electrolytic solution with the electrolytic solution is formed.
