Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the multicolor image forming apparatus of a tandem system in which the density difference of an image to be generated at the time of forming a monochromatic image is made to be dissolved. SOLUTION: In a multicolor image forming apparatus in which a form conveying belt is made to be changeable (separately contactable) to a retraction state from the image forming state of a downstream side which does not participate in an image formation at the time of forming a monochromatic image, the initial electrification potential of a photoreceptor 6B is changed over by changing the confronting interval d between the screen grid 12 and the discharge electrode 13 of the electrifier 1B of the image forming station (B) of the uppermost stream at the time of forming a color image when entire image forming stations are used and at the time of forming the monochromatic image when only the image forming station (B) positioned at the uppermost stream is used.
