Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a liquid crystal film wherein the alignment defects of a liquid crystal caused by an alignment supporting substrate are reduced can be obtained, in a manufacturing method for a liquid crystal film for optical elements e.g. a color compensation plate for a liquid crystal display device, a visual field angle compensation plate for a liquid crystal display device, an optical retardation plate, a half wavelength plate, a quarter wavelength plate, an optically active element, etc. SOLUTION: The method for aligning a liquid crystalline substance is characterized in that a polymer film whose surface is previously polished is used as the alignment supporting substrate.
