Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming device with excellent maintainability. SOLUTION: A drive pulley 510 is placed outside (outside in a horizontal direction) an enclosure 506c. Further, a stepping motor 513 serving as a drive source for delivering a driving force to the drive pulley 510 is also provided outside the enclosure 506c. Part of a first timing belt 509 being one of driving force delivery means is extracted to the outside of the enclosure 506c and stretched over the drive pulley 510. The driving force from the stepping motor 513 is delivered to the drive pulley 510 and the driving force is further delivered from the drive pulley 510 to the first timing belt 509. Thus, the power from the outside of the enclosure 506c is introduced into the inside of the enclosure 506c with a single timing belt.
