Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoelectric device that has a plurality of stages of thermoelectric modules in an independently controllable state and is high in both cooling efficiency and heating efficiency. SOLUTION: This thermoelectric device is provided with two stages of thermoelectric modules 2 and 3. The module 2 is provided with a lower substrate 4, an intermediate substrate 8, and a plurality of thermoelectric elements 7 and 12 between the substrates 4 and 8. The thermoelectric module 3 is provided with an upper substrate 17 and a plurality of thermoelectric elements 16 between the intermediate substrate 8 and upper substrate 17. The elements 16 are connected in series through lower and upper electrodes 15b and 18. In addition, a conductive material 13 is buried in the intermediate substrate 8 between lower and upper electrodes 15b and 10, so that the electric power inputted to lead wires 14 may be supplied to the thermoelectric elements 16 through the lower electrode 6, thermoelectric elements 12, upper electrodes 10, conductive material 13, and lower electrodes 15a.
