Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emitting negative electrode which restrains a fall-off of a single crystal needle from a reservoir, enabled to further restrain cracks, for the system to which, a stabilizing material is added, and to provide a method of stably providing the reservoir by shortening the forming process. SOLUTION: The electron emitting negative electrode comprises a needle made of the single crystal of tungsten or molybdenum, a filament for heating the needle, and a reservoir formed on the needle, containing an element for lowering the work function of the single crystal. The reservoir contains at least one element chosen from a group belonging to 2A group, 3A group, or 5A group, and formed into thin-film shape. |
