Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a catalyst for manufacturing methacrylic acid having high activity and high selectivity. SOLUTION: In manufacturing the catalyst for manufacturing methacrylic acid comprising a Keggin-type heteropolyacid salt having a composition represented by the formula (I); Pa Mob Vc Xd Ye Of (wherein, P, Mo, V and O are respectively phosphorus, molybdenum, vanadium and oxygen, X is at least one kind of an element selected from potassium, rubidium, cesium and thalluim, Y is at least one kind of an element selected from copper, arsenic, antimony, boron, silver, bismuth, iron, cobalt, lanthanum and cerium and (a), (b), (c), (d), (e) and (f) are respectively atomic ratios of P, Mo, V, X, Y and O), an aqueous solution or slurry prepared by mixing catalyst raw materials is dried and molded to obtain a molded body, which is, in turn, treated at 40-100 deg.C in an atmosphere with a relative humidity of 10-60% for 0.5-10 hr and subsequently baked.
