Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag device for a side impact in an automobile which can enhance a freedom degree of a car body structure of itself or its periphery. SOLUTION: By closing an upper end of an expansion chamber C in the rearmost part corresponding to a center pillar 3 in an air bag main unit 1 by an upper blocking part S4, expansion of this expansion chamber C is delayed, in a thin condition before not completion of expansion, an air bag passes a narrow clearance between the center pillar 3 and a front seat 13, the air bag main unit 1 is unfolded sufficiently downward.
