Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promptly transmit required image data such as original image data and irreversible compressed image data. SOLUTION: When the original image data Sorg are inputted from an input modality 4 to an image server 1, a server computer 13 produces pieces of the irreversible compressed image data S1, S2 having a decompression ratio of 1/20, 1/50. In this way, three versions of image data, the original image data and pieces of the irreversible compressed image data S1, S2 are created for a single image and stored in a temporary storage medium 11. The version of image data to be acquired is specified from a workstation 2 connected with the image server 1 via a network 3, the image data in the specified version is read from the temporary storage medium 11, transmitted to the workstation 2 and the image to be expressed by the image data is displayed on a monitor 22.
