Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connecting method for optical fibers which can actualize target wavelength loss characteristics without inserting any optical component other than the optical fibers to be connected. SOLUTION: The fusion-spliced optical fiber 10 is fixed to optical fiber fixation parts 3a and 3b. Then the fusion-spliced part of the optical fiber 10 is heated by microtorches 4a and 4b. The quantity of heat conducted to the fusion- spliced part of the optical fiber 10 is so adjusted as to obtain target wavelength loss characteristics of the optical fiber having been spliced by properly adjusting heating conditions. Consequently, the spliced optical fiber has prescribed wavelength loss characteristics. |
