Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine with an engine brake device which produces as high a brake power as possible through all engine speed region. SOLUTION: This multi-cylinder internal combustion engine provides an engine brake device 8 having intake and exhaust valves, and an auxiliary brake valve 10 for each cylinder. The exhaust valves are opened to an exhaust system 6, and a pressure tank 9 has a pressure control valve 12. Furthermore, brake passages 11 extending from the brake valves 10 have such opening to the pressure tank, thereby enabling a gas exchange between cylinders at the operating time of the brake valves 10. The pressure tank 9 provides a cooling device 17 to cool the gas exchanged between the cylinders.
