Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dramatically increase the volume efficiency as a dephosphorizing material and to obtain a dephosphorizing material which can significantly decrease the amount of waste and the disposal cost for the dephosphorizing process. SOLUTION: The powder of silicate source material and the powder of lime source material are rolled and granulated to obtain a spheric material having about 1 to 15 mm diameter. The granulated material is aged in moist air and further aged in an autoclave at 180 deg.C and 10 atm. Thus, a spheric dephosphorizing material consisting of hydrated calcium silicate is produced. The dephosphorizing material is housed in a column, which is put in water containing phosphorus. In the spheric dephosphorizing material, the contact area of the hydrated calcium silicate as the crystallization site of apatite and the water containing phosphorus is increased and the adsorption efficiency of phosphorus can be extremely increased. The dephosphorizing material shows excellent handling property and high housing efficiency in a column.
