Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing optically active N-protected amine derivatives useful as the intermediates of agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals and enamides very useful as the substrates for producing the same by asymmetric reduction. SOLUTION: The optically active N-protected amino acid derivatives are produced by condensing ketals which can be prepared from an inexpensive raw material with amides or carbamates in the presence of an acid to form enamides, and asymmetrically reducing the enamides with the use of a hydrogenation catalyst to be prepared from a transition metal complex and an optically active ligand.
