Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multicolor image forming device capable of easily and accurately detecting the speed variation component (variation width and phase) of an image carrier and obtaining more excellent color matching accuracy. SOLUTION: In this image forming device, a plurality of image forming means having an endless belt type image carrier stretched and laid between a plurality of rollers and turned by the driving roller having driving force among them form toner images of different colors on the respective image carriers, and the toner images of different colors formed by a plurality of image forming means are directly transferred to the same recording medium in turn, whereby the image is formed. In the device, a pattern detection means is provided so that a distance between its installation position and an exposed latent image position may be the integral multiple of the circumferential length of the driving roller.
