Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply ink to a recording head while sustaining a constant negative pressure and to prevent leakage of ink. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge comprises a negative pressure generating mechanism 3 having a connection opening 4 provided at an upper part of an ink chamber 2 and interconnected with the atmosphere to sustain normal close valve state and a connection opening 5 for supplying ink provided at a lower part, and discharging ink in the ink chamber 2 to the connection opening 5 for supplying ink while sustaining a specified negative pressure state of ink in the ink chamber 2.
