Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet buffering device capable of optimizing the memory usage amount as well as the efficiency of buffers in accordance with the contents of transferred packets. SOLUTION: A packet buffering device comprising main buffers for packet buffering processing provided in each of a plurality of paths, and a route setting means which inserts a spare buffer in a path that is in congestion condition, is provided with at least one packet abort unit for aborting a packet in accordance with an abort condition corresponding to priority rank information which is included in the packet to serve as an index of its importance. The route setting means inserts the packet abort unit in a path in congestion condition.
