Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for pitch-based extra fine carbon fiber felt, with which a carbon fiber felt is simply and continuously produced even in an extra fine carbon fiber. SOLUTION: A mat-form extra fine carbon fiber obtained continuously through a spinning process, an infusibilizing process and a carbonizing process is successively sent to a felting process while being opened without staying or storing the opened extra fine carbon fiber to produce the pitch-based extra fine carbon fiber felt. In the method, the mat-form extra fine carbon fiber may be opened by an opening machine 7 equipped with a rotary drum. In the felting process, the carbon fiber may be piled in a cottony state while supplying the opened extra fine carbon fiber to a fiber collection part 8 and spraying a solution of a binder resin on the fiber collection part 8. The solution of the binder resin may be sprayed in 1-30 μm average droplet diameter on the extra fine carbon fiber having 0.3-10 μm average fiber diameter.
