Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer insulator that does not easily bring about melting of the flange fittings even if an instantaneous short circuit is caused. SOLUTION: In the polymer insulator 1 that is comprised of a core member 2, a jacket 3 made of a barrel part 4 provided at the outer circumference of the core member 2 and a plurality of caps 5, and a flange fitting 6 provided at both ends of the core member 2, a melting part 11 that protrudes from the outer surface of the flange fitting 6 is provided in the vicinity of the boundary of the flange fitting 6 with the jacket 3.
