Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an optical transmission system capable of extending a distance between OLT and ONU, high capacity and wide area in an existing PDS type optical transmission system. SOLUTION: The system comprises the OLT including an OSU, two MUX/ DEMUXs, optical fiber transmission lines 5, and a wavelength converter 6. In a down transmission, a signal with λi is transmitted from the OSU side and a WDM transmission is implemented between OLT and the wavelength converter. At this time, the signal is spilt by the MUX/DEMUXb4 to input into the wavelength converter, signal processing such as regenerative repeating or repeating from the wavelength λi is performed by the wavelength converter to convert the wavelength suitable for a wavelength for the PDS type optical transmission system and the ONU side communicates using an optical PDS type optical transmission system by the wavelength converter.
