Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photomechanical process for a positive photosensitive planographic printing plate having a large development latitude and excellent in processing stability. SOLUTION: In the positive image forming material having a positive photosensitive composition layer containing (A) a photothermal converting material and (B) an alkali-soluble resin on the base, the alkali-soluble resin contains a novolak resin and/or phenolic resin and an alkali-soluble resin component whose weight average molecular weight is <=2,000 occupies <=55 wt.% of the entire alkali-soluble resin.
