Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new diquaternary ammonium compound useful as an antimicrobial agent, a disinfectant and a preservative. SOLUTION: This diquaternary ammonium compound is represented by formula (1) (R1 is a 5-16C alkyl or the like; R4 is a 4-16C alkyl or the like; R2, R3, R5 and R6 are each independently a 1-4C alkyl; A is a monovalent anion). This method for producing the compound is produced. The compound is useful as an antimicrobial agent, a disinfectant and a preservative.
