Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the structure of a Cu-Cr based contact stock for a vacuum switch which has excellent large current breaking characteristics and dielectric breakdown voltage characteristics by adding heat resistant elements to a Cu-Cr based contact material, and to provide a contact stock produced by the method. SOLUTION: The method for producing a copper-chromium based contact stock contains a stage where a powdery mixture in which the powder of copper (Cu) used as the base material, the powder of chromium (Cr) improving the electric characteristics of the contact stock and the powder of heat resistant elements refining the chromium grains in the base material are mixed is obtained and a stage where the above powdery mixture is treated by one method selected from among a sintering method, a dipping method and a compacting method to obtain a sintered body. The alloy composition contains, by weight, 20 to 80% Cu, 10 to 80% Cr, 0.001 to 80% Mo, 0.01 to 80% W, 0.001 to 80% Ta, 0.001 to 80% Nb and 0.001 to 80% V.
