Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which energy can be saved more appropriately and finely depending on the use conditions of the imaging apparatus or the ambient brightness. SOLUTION: When an energy save mode is started, normal operation is effected at first (ST11). During normal operation, a decision is made whether an illuminance detected by an illuminance sensor is lower than a specified level K1 or not (ST12), and a switching is made to a second low power mode if it is lower than K1 (ST13). When operation is waited in the second low power mode, a decision is made whether an illuminance detected by the illuminance sensor is equal to or higher than the specified level K1 or not (ST14), and a switching is made to a first low power mode if it is not lower than K1 (ST15). In the first low power mode, a decision is made whether it is reset completely or not (ST16) and the operation is waited in the first low power mode if it is not reset completely, otherwise normal operation is reset (ST11).
