Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent releasing of clamping by mistake in method for driving a recording carrier reading mechanism, wherein a pickup section for reproducing the information of a recording carrier and a clamp section for clamping the recording carrier are associatively operated, and an original point detection section is associatively operated to detect the presence of the pickup section in an original position within the range of reproduction on the recording carrier. SOLUTION: The driving method includes a step (S11) of determining whether a first condition indicating the on-going reproducing operation of a recording carrier reading mechanism 1 and a second condition indicating the operation of an original detection section 11 are both established or not, and a step (S12) of moving a pickup section back within a reproducing range R.
