Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skew correcting device to ensure smooth and proper correction motion of skew of a medium. SOLUTION: The skew correcting device comprises a medium feed roller 500 situated in a conveyance route 102; a driven roller 220 to convey a medium in cooperation with the feed roller 500; a correction roller 600 to move a medium, fed to the conveyance route 102, in an oblique feed direction; and a front shutter 210 protruding and retracting from above from and in the conveyance route 102 and having a front guide surface with which the front end part of the medium fed to the conveyance route 102 makes contact. This constitution moves the front shutter 210 aside from the conveyance route 102 through upward movement. In this case, even when the front edge of a medium makes contact with a front guide surface, the medium resides on the conveyance route 102 through an own weight and an elastic force provided by itself.
