Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new microorganism capable of scavenging phthalic esters. SOLUTION: This new microorganism is a bacterium belonging to the genus Gordonia and capable of scavenging phthalic esters; wherein when the bacteria at a level of 10×108/ml are cultured at 30 deg.C for 30 h in a medium containing <=500 ppm of a phthalic ester of the formula (R1 and R2 are each indepedently selected from the group consisting of H and alkyl groups, provided that R1 and R2 are not simultaneously H, >=80 wt.% of the phthalic ester is scavenged. |
