Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stepper motor drive circuit in which contact/noncontact can be decided surely even if the positional pattern of a rotor is varied when abutted against a stopper due to ambient temperature variation or variation of components. SOLUTION: An exciting signal for rotating a rotor 3 comprises first exciting signals C1a, C1b being fed to a first coil C1, and second exciting signals C2a, C2b being fed to a second coil C2. The first and second exciting signals include detection steps 7a, 7b and 5a, 5b, respectively, for making the first and second coils C1, C2 to function as coils for detecting an induced voltage over specified continuous steps of one cycle in synchronism with the timing of a pointer 6 for abutting against a stopper 7. Based on an induced voltage detected at the detection steps 7a, 7b and 5a, 5b, a decision is made whether the pointer 6 abutted against the stopper 7 or not.
