PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for grinding a round bar capable of efficiently and accurately grinding a minute diameter round bar. SOLUTION: In this grinding method, the outer peripheral surface of a round bar work W is ground to reduce the diameter thereof. By using a polishing tool 7 having an annular stone 7b with grinding surfaces parallel with and orthogonal to the axis of the work W and allowing ultrasonic vibration to be provided thereto, the work W is rotated about the axis thereof, the stone 7b of a grinding tool 7 is rotated in the direction same as or reverse to that of the work W, and the outer peripheral surface of the work W is ground while moving the work in the axial direction of the work with the inner peripheral surface thereof inscribed with the outer peripheral surface of the work W.
