Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily evaluate the average wall thickness or the presence of a flaw of a round pipe or the fluid in the round pipe by ultrasonic wave propagated, through the round pipe in the circumferential direction thereof. SOLUTION: Ultrasonic waves are incident on the wall of the round pipe and propagation times and/or amplitudes are measured with respect to the ultrasonic waves propagating through the wall of the round pipe, while repeating multiple reflection from the inner and outer surfaces of the round pipe and the ultrasonic waves propagating through a plurality of routes, propagating through the walls of the round pipe to be subsequently incident on the fluid in the round pipe to be again incident on the wall of the round pipe to decide on the average wall thickness of the round pipe, the presence of a flaw in the round pipe, the presence of a flaw in a lining and the presence or kind of the fluid in the round pipe. |
