PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data compression device that can relieve a processing load attended with data compression processing. SOLUTION: The data compression device 100 used for a data transmitter transmitting data is characterized in that it is provided with a transmission mode selection circuit 103 that selects a 1st transmission mode or a 2nd transmission mode depending on information denoting the kind of received data, a data compression circuit 105 that compresses the received data and transmits the compressed data to a data output terminal, and a switch 104 that transmits the received data to the data output terminal in the case of the 1st transmission mode or transmits the received data to the data compression circuit 105 in the case of the 2nd transmission mode. The transmission mode selection circuit 103 selects the transmission mode based on the signal denoting the kind of the received data. Then the data compression circuit 105 discriminates whether or not the data are compressed depending on the kind of the received data. Thus, the load of compression processing can be relieved.
