Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily replace an unwound old roll with a new roll when unwinding a web material such as paper from a master roll wound with the material around it in order to wind it for processing. SOLUTION: This unwinding device 25 supports a pair of master rolls 30 and 31 to be rotated alternately to unwind web. Each of the master rolls 30 and 31 are engageable with a center drive structure for rotating the master rolls 30 and 31. The center drive structures are provided with core chucks 33, 34 and 35, 36 detachably engageable with the master rolls 30, 31, respectively. The core chucks 33, 34, 35 and 36 can be permanently or rotatably attached on a carriage 26.
