Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively drive a driven part by the output of an expansion device of waste heat recovery apparatus constituting a Rankine cycle. SOLUTION: This waste heat recovery apparatus 2 constituting a Rankine cycle is provided with an evaporator 3 for heating water by waste heat of an internal combustion engine 1 connected to a transmission 143 to generate high pressure steam, a displacement-type expansion device 4 for converting the high pressure steam generated by the evaporator 3 to fixed torque output, a condenser 5 for liquefying low pressure steam discharged by the expansion device 4, and a wafer supply pump 6 for supplying water liquefied by the condenser 5 to the evaporator 3. The expansion device 4 is connected to a power generator and motor 124 through a planetary gear mechanism 122, and the expansion device 4 is connected to an output shaft 142 of the internal combustion engine 1 through the planetary gear mechanism 122 and the belt type continuously variable transmission 123. The speed change ratio of the belt type continuously variable transmission 123 is controlled so that the rotating speed of the internal combustion engine 1 and the rotating speed of the expansion device 4 match each other to transmit rotation to the transmission 143.
