Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for minimizing poor distribution of vapor/liquid in a section partitioned for recovering a current rich in an intermediately volatile component by making good use of a concept of a partition wall in a distillation column. SOLUTION: This distillation column apparatus has at least the first distillation column 121 where at least the first and second distillation sections are disposed on the inside and further a middle distillation section 127 and a section 125 partitioned adjacently to the section 127 are disposed between the first and second distillation sections. The equivalent diameter De of the section 125 is made to be at least about 60% of the ideal diameter Di. The first portion 135 of a fluid current 133 is made to flow into the section 127 and the second portion 137 to flow into the section 125. A multi-component fluid 101 containing at least three components different in volatility is distilled to obtain at least three currents 145, 151 and 153 by withdrawing a side stream from the section 125.
