PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method or an improved device for detecting curved traveling (cornering). SOLUTION: In this method and device for detecting curved traveling of a vehicle or for obtaining a lateral acceleration (ay) of the vehicle, a signal for displaying the curved traveling of the vehicle and a scale relative to the radius of curvature or the lateral acceleration (ay) of the vehicle are obtained on at least each one side of the vehicle by using standard velocities (vS, vSL, vSR), and the standard velocities (vS, vSL, vSR) on one side of the vehicle are determined in dependence on deceleration of at least one wheel on the side of the vehicle.
